Gawler East Link Road

At its meeting held on 8 November 2016 the Council considered a report on the Gawler East Link Road (GELR) and concluded a final decision on its preferred alignment.  At that time, the Council resolved to endorse the  Revised Eckerman Avenue Alignment as its preferred route for this roadway.

This road, once constructed will play an integral part in servicing both the existing and future communities of Gawler East development zone and beyond, as well as reduce the impact of traffic generated from growth in our region on the Gawler Town Centre.  It will also allow Council to meet its long term strategic objective of a future direct extension of the Link Road to the intersection of Tiver Road/Main North Road.

The State Government’s Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) has now taken over responsibility for the management of the project and will advance the following activities; further planning and design work, community and stakeholder engagement, determining land acquisition requirements (including the necessary engagement with impacted property owners), management of the detailed design and construction.

Public statements from both the Council and the State Government on this project are contained below

The request for tender for the main construction contract will be called later this year with major construction expected to commence early 2018 and completed in 2019.
