What is it?
This seven-volume Gawler: Annotated Bibliography, commonly known as the Gawler Bibliography, was a joint initiative of the Gawler Environment and Heritage Association and the Town of Gawler. It was prepared as part of a local commitment towards encouraging the growth of information and knowledge concerning Gawler and its region. One of the objectives of the project was to identify and ‘record the contents and location of all technical, scientific and historical primary or secondary material that deals with the Gawler region’. This bibliography in no way claims to be the ‘definitive’ listing of source material about Gawler. There is much material still to be captured (especially post-1997) and the Gawler Public Library library@gawler.sa.gov.au would be very interested in receiving your suggestions.

What is included?
Letters, newspaper articles, diary entries, books, book extracts, photographs, paintings, journal articles, government reports, students’ projects and theses and pamphlets dealing with most aspects of Gawler’s history including aboriginal life, colonial and post-Federation industry, education, entertainment and descriptions of settled life within and outside the town.

Locations and access
The material included in the Bibliography is located in a number of institutions: Gawler Public Library, University of South Australia, University of Adelaide, Roseworthy Agricultural College, Flinders University, State Library of South Australia and the State Records Office. Addresses, contact details, hours of access and costs were accurate at the time of publication (1997).
