Immunisation
The Town of Gawler provides an extensive immunisation service at secondary schools and at the Gawler Sport and Community Centre. Council can be contacted to arrange on site immunisation at your workplace.
It is widely accepted that immunisation is a cost-effective and essential strategy for preventing serious communicable diseases in the community. In addition to providing public Immunisation services, Council monitors community immunisation rates and works with other health providers to optimise vaccine coverage. A high immunisation rate not only protects those being immunised but also protects the wider community by limiting the spread of infectious diseases to others.
Vaccines provided at clinics include the following:
Diphtheria, tetanus & pertussis/IPV (Polio)
Hib/Hepatitis B
Measles, mumps & rubella
Hepatitis A & B
Varicella (chickenpox)
Influenza
Pneumococcal
Meningococcal
Council provides immunisation in accordance with the current National Health & Medical Research Council (NH&MRC) guidelines. Some vaccines are government funded and are therefore provided at no cost. Other vaccines are provided on a cost recovery basis.
