WhileSection122of theLocal
Government Act 1999 requires the
development of anumber of specific
StrategicManagement Plans, it has
beenessential for councils toprepare
anadditional andoverarchingplan. This
document has historicallybeen referred to
as theStrategicPlanandmakes reference
to key aims, objectives, strategies and
desiredoutcomes.
Most councils now refer to their Strategic
Planas their CommunityPlan. This
changeof titlemoreaccurately reflects
how thedocumentwas createdand
viewedby thecommunity.
TheGawlerCommunityPlan2014-2024
isadocument that guides the future
allocationof resources for the typeand
level of infrastructureandserviceprovided
to thecommunitybyCouncil. It identifies
the roleCouncil will play inadvocating for
infrastructureandserviceprovisionbyother
spheresof government, non-government
organisationsand theprivatesector.
TheCommunityPlanhas not onlybeen
developed ina local context but also
within that of thewider regional and
broader statecontext. Council Community
Plansmust contribute to the realisation
of the strategies andobjectivesoutlined
in theSouthAustralianGovernment’s
StrategicPlan.
Toensure the visondescribed in the
Gawler CommunityPlan2014-2024 is
ultimately achievedat a local level, the
goals, objectives and strategieswithin
thePlanneed tocascadedownandbe
reflected inother council plansbyway of
actions, responsibilities andperformance
measures. These include:
