Key initiatives for 2014/15will includea reviewof a local
space for youngpeople, aswell as theyouthportal,
volunteeringandassistanceatTownofGawler youth
events.
Promotional Films (FilmFestival 2014&Gawler
YouthAC)YouthFilmFestival
The2013FilmFestival provided theopportunity for
aspiringfilmmakers fromour region toshowcase their
work,whilst receivingmentoringandsupport from
professionals in the industry.
Twodayfilmmakingworkshopswere run three times
during thefinancial yearwhichhadover 30youngpeople
participating to improve their skillsandknowledge.
Apublicscreeningnightwasheldat theGawler
Cinema’swhere theshort listedfilms fromsubmitted
entrieswerescreened.Winnerswereannouncedand
over 80peopleattended thisverypopular event and
industry trainingproject.

The2014/15Workshop for aspiringfilmmakerswill be
held inJuly.Apublicscreeningwill beheld inNovember
2014 toshowcaseentries.
Summer Initiatives,GawlerFringeFestival&Lane
WayActivation
TheTownofGawler hosted four outdoor cinemasat
ApexParkonconsecutiveFridaynightsduringsummer.
Prior to theoutdoor cinemaeventsa jumpingcastle, face
painting,music, aswell as foodanddrinkswereoffered
by local businessesandserviceclubs.
TheAdelaideFringeFestival came toGawler between
14Februaryand16March2014.Theconcept developed
for the ‘Gawler Fringe’ eventswere tohaveactivitiesheld
throughout theFringeperiod focusedonFridayevenings
andweekends.
During2013/14Council’s ‘PopUpLaneWay’was the
first of itskind forGawler.Acommunityeventwitha
differenceheldover twodaysandevenings, theevents
attractedadiverseaudience, activating themainstreet
andside lanewaybetween the InstitutebuildingandANZ
Bankwithmusic,wineand food.

In2014/15 theTownofGawlerwill focusonanumber
of initiatives, inparticular theAdelaideFringeFestival
where the ‘PopUpLaneWay’ andGawler Instituteare
registeredasvenues for 2015.
Out ofSchoolHoursCare
TheGawlerSport andCommunityCentre ‘Out of School
HoursCare’ programcontinued toprovidequality ‘Before
andAfterSchool Care’ to theGawlerPrimarySchool
community, andVacationCare to thewiderGreater
Gawler community.Theprogram included theprovision
of abroad rangeof physical andpassiveactivities for
children including theActiveAfterSchool Program,
excursionsand incursionsandahomeworkcentre.
FuturePlan -Out ofSchoolHoursCare
TheGawlerSport andCommunityCentreOut of School
HoursCareservicewill concludeoperation inJuly2014,
withGawlerPrimarySchool commencing theoperation
of anoutsourcedOut of School HoursCareprogram
from theprimaryschool site, locateddirectlyacross the
road fromGawlerSport andCommunityCentre.
