Taparna - Reid Reserve

(Taparna, meaning Paths/Trails)

Taparna / Reid Reserve is a large open space area (approx. 250,000 square metres) that runs from the suburb of Reid through to the back of Tidnaparntu / Princes Park and the Gawler Sport & Community Centre. The area is bordered by the Gawler Bypass, the Gawler River and the Gawler-Roseworthy railway line.

The reserve includes shared walking and cycling paths that link to the pathways along the Gawler River. This area is of significance to Aboriginal people, particularly along the length of the watercourse. There are many large, old significant gum trees here and the area is a haven for wildlife.

It is important to note that the Gawler branded signage displaying the Gawler logo and date est. 1839, is in reference to the establishment of the Town of Gawler itself. We acknowledge that the Adelaide Plains region, including the land that is now known as the Town of Gawler, has been occupied by the Kaurna people for many thousands of years.
