Activation
Public spaces have a significant effect on the overall wellbeing of individuals and the community as a collective. As social venues, these places help to strengthen social identity and offer opportunities for community connectedness and inclusion.
Gawler has long been a place where people come together to meet and embrace community life. For many thousands of years, Kaurna people have occupied this region, including the land that is now the Town of Gawler. The idea of Gawler as a community meeting place has continued and remains a key aspect of Gawler today.
Activation Strategy
In November 2024, Council adopted the ‘Gawler Activation Strategy 2025 - 2030’. The Strategy's aim is to encourage the delivery of activation initiatives throughout the Town and achieve the vision of “a vibrant and active, event filled council through the activation of designated spaces”.
The ‘Gawler Activation Strategy 2025 - 2030’ encourages a sense of place and excitement through increased community celebration, interaction and gathering. Council will provide, partner, promote and encourage events and activity that builds community capacity, improves community cohesion and enhances the vibrancy of the Town.
