Free breast cancer screening in Gawler

Published 27th January 2023
Town of Gawler is once again supporting BreastScreen SA in their biennial visit to Gawler.

BreastScreen SA Mobile Screening Unit – 2023 Gawler Show Grounds

BreastScreen SA provides free breast cancer screening every two years to healthy women aged over 40, especially those aged 50 to 74 years. Screening mammograms (breast X-rays) are currently the only clinically proven way to detect breast cancer at an early stage, often before it can be felt.

The Mobile Screening Unit has the latest digital technology on board, providing women with comfort and peace of mind when they attend for their regular check-up. Appointments can take as little as 10 minutes on board the Mobile Screening Unit.

The service will be located at the Gawler Show Grounds, in the carpark of the Gawler Sport and Community Centre from Tuesday 7 February until Thursday 27 April 2023. A doctor’s referral is not needed to access the screening service. The duration of the visit will be influenced by how many local women access the service.

Town of Gawler encourages our community to take advantage of this lifesaving initiative and spread the word to all the women you know to access this free service while it is in Gawler.

“We are pleased that this lifesaving initiative will be returning to Gawler once again, making it very easy to access without travelling long distances,’ said Mayor Redman. “Early detection of breast cancer saves lives. Picking up a breast cancer at a very early stage is just so important, as it can maximise the options for simpler treatments and more successful outcomes”, Mayor Redman continued.
