Extreme Weather Warning Issued

An Extreme Heatwave for the Greater Adelaide area has been issued by the State Emergency Service.

The forecast temperatures over the next 4 days are:
Wednesday 27 Feb – 39deg
Thursday 28 Feb – 39deg
Friday 1 Mar – 41deg
Sat 2 Mar – 41deg

With these extreme temperatures forecast, Housing SA has also activated its Code Red summer emergency response for people sleeping rough across SA. Gawler Council has a number of Code Red facilities with air-conditioning and water available. Any member of the community is welcome to seek refuge from the heat at these facilities.

Facilities and current opening times include:
• Gawler Administration Centre: Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm
• Gawler Civic Centre: Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm
Gawler Public Library: Wednesday 9am to 5pm, Thursday 10am to 6pm, Friday 9am to 5pm, Saturday 9am to 1pm
• Gawler Visitor Information Centre: Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm
• Evanston Gardens Library: Wednesday 2pm to 5pm, Thursday 10am to 1pm, Friday 9am to 12pm
• Gawler Sport and Community Centre: Monday to Friday 9am to 9pm, Sat 9am to 5pm

Anyone sleeping rough who is affected by the heat, or those supporting them, can call the South Australian Homelessness Gateway at any time on 1800 003 308 to be connected to local services and emergency accommodation.
