The Town of Gawler is seeking to employ a suitably qualified and self-motivated person to join the Development Services Team.

We are seeking a highly motivated graduate who is looking to kick start their career in Planning. You will have recently completed your studies in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent.You will have exceptional customer service and conflict resolution skills, as well as highly developed written and verbal communication skills. You will work well both autonomously and in a team environment.

Reporting to the Team Leader Development Services, the Graduate Development Assessment Planner will provide planning advice to both internal and external stakeholders, as well as undertake development assessment of residential, industrial, commercial applications and land divisions. Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Providing planning advice to applicants, members of the public, internal departments and other stakeholders
  • Undertake assessment of a broad range of development within a fast growing local government area
  • Deliver a high level of customer service as the Duty Planner both through verbal and written correspondence
  • Assist with the preparation of various reports including Council Assessment Panel reports
  • Keeping up-to-date with legislative requirements including the implementation of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act
  • Work closely with other internal departments including building, engineering and regulatory services regarding development matters

Some experience in Development Assessment including work experience is desirable but not essential to the role. Attendance at out-of-hours meetings, including but not limited to monthly Council Assessment Panel meetings is a requirement of the role.
