The Town of Gawler is seeking to employ a suitably qualified and self-motivated person to join the Finance & Corporate Services Division.

We are seeking a person with skills and experience to review and understand legislation, regulations, policies and procedures. You may have a legal mind, or clear skills in this regard to work in the governance realm of Council’s administrative functions. Administrative skills are also a key part of the position with ability to work on multiple electronic platforms expected.

Reporting to the Manager Finance & Corporate Services, the Governance Coordinator will coordinate and oversee Council’s corporate governance responsibilities.
Key responsibilities of this position include:
• Developing and reviewing Governance related policies, and coordinating the periodic review of all Council policies
• Providing advice to the CEO and Mayor on related matters
• Interpretation of various legislation as it relates to Local Government
• Maintenance of various Governance related registers
• Coordinating Council’s program of legislative compliance and statutory obligations
• Coordinating the timely creation of Council / Committee agendas and minutes
• Implementation and maintenance of appropriate systems of corporate governance

Experience in using ‘InfoCouncil’ business papers software is desirable but not essential to the role. Attendance at out-of-hours meetings, including but not limited to monthly Council meetings, is a requirement of the role.
