The Disability Inclusion Act 2018 (SA) requires Council to develop and implement a Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP).
The Town of Gawler Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2026-2030 aims to improve access to appropriate services and supports, expand opportunities for participation, and create a welcoming and inclusive community for people with disability who live in or visit Gawler. It also aligns with the State Disability Inclusion Plan.
Shaping a More Inclusive Gawler
Delivering a comprehensive community engagement process was a high priority in developing the DAIP.
Between December 2025 and March 2026, more than 330 community members, service providers, Council Members and staff took part in a range of engagement activities, including a community survey, workshops, forums and targeted sessions.
This process centred lived experience, recognised community strengths and supported collaboration between Council and the community to co-design practical and achievable actions.
The Disability Access and Inclusion Plan Engagement Outcomes Report provides a detailed overview of the community engagement process that took place.
The DAIP
Informed by community feedback, the DAIP responds to the needs, priorities and aspirations of people living with disability, their families and carers, as well as the broader Gawler community.
The DAIP reaffirms Council’s commitment to improving access and inclusion across the Town of Gawler and will help ensure these perspectives are embedded in Council decision-making and translated into meaningful action.
The Town of Gawler Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2026-2030 was adopted by Council on Monday 22 June 2026.
