Volunteers play a very important role at the Town of Gawler.  In fact, many of Council's community programs are highly dependent upon the commitment of our dedicated team of volunteers.  Our volunteer programs help create a sense of belonging, encourage sustainable practices and help to promote community well-being.

Plus, in addition to helping others, volunteering can provide many benefits to you too. It can be fun - meeting new people, learning and developing new skills, forming new networks and gaining valuable experience.

Council Volunteer Programs

Civic Centre

The Cultural Heritage Centre Volunteers provide assistance to the Cultural Heritage team by providing a range of support including assisting with researching and helping to catalogue collection items.

Please note - due to current volunteer numbers, there are currently no volunteer vacancies within the Cultural Heritage Centre.

The Visitor information Centre is open 7 days a week and is staffed by a dedicated and enthusiastic team of volunteers who are known as Gawler Ambassadors. They play a vital role in helping others to discover all there is to see and do, in and around Gawler. In addition, they also assist with the bookings of accommodations, sites and travels, as well as conducting local tours.

The Graffiti Removal Volunteers provide Council with a rapid response to help eradicate graffiti from within our Town, with the aim that this will help deter it from occurring within the community.

Please note – due to current volunteer numbers, there are currently no vacancies within the Graffiti Removal Program.

Home Assist Program

Home Assist volunteers provide opportunities that support older residents to continue to participate in social activities and maintain their connection to the community, through friendly visiting or as hostesses of the coffee, lunch and movie clubs.

They also help provide a client voice to how the Program operates, through their role on the Consumer Advisory Body.

Gawler Libraries are supported by a dedicated team of volunteers who help deliver a variety of services including the Toy Library and Library Home Visits, which provides a delivery service for residents who are unable to visit the Libraries.  Volunteers also have the opportunity to be involved with the Friends of Gawler Libraries (FOGL). Through fundraising efforts, the Friends help support Library and community programs, contribute to small equipment purchases, and volunteer in programs and book sales.

Please note – due to current volunteer numbers, the only volunteer vacancy within the Libraries is within the FOGL Program, which requires commitment on a Tuesday afternoon (bi-monthly meetings) and at events, which are generally held on Thursday afternoons.

Skating Program

Skating Volunteers provide assistance on the Skate Floor during the regular Roller Skating sessions that are held at the Gawler Sport and Community Centre. They help to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for those community members who are attending.

Our Youth Volunteers help to develop and deliver a range of Council programs and events, designed especially for children and young people living in and around Gawler.
