(Paridla Taikunthi, meaning rivers coming together)

This beautiful park is located on Lawrence Avenue, Gawler South. In 2003, an ‘Indigenous Heritage Study of the Gawler River Junction’ took place in collaboration with Kaurna Elders. The junction, where the North Para, South Para and Gawler Rivers meet, was identified as a culturally significant site.

Following this study, the area surrounding the river junction was given the name Paridla Taikunthi, meaning ‘rivers coming together’. The ‘launch’ of this space in October 2003, was the first of many reconciliation initiatives for the Town of Gawler.

In 2010, a revised spelling system was implemented for the Kaurna language. Paridla Taikunthi (formerly spelt Parridla Taikondi) is the contemporary spelling of these Kaurna words.
