(Tulya Mukapaanthi, meaning Remembering the Soldiers)

Tulya Mukapaanthi / Pioneer Park is a picturesque park located alongside the Gawler Visitor Information Centre. It is the site for many community events including markets, fairs, Christmas events, and Gawler’s ANZAC Day dawn service.
The park is considered a place of reflection to honour and remember the men and women who served in all wars and peacekeeping operations. In 2018, the War Memorial hand sculpture was installed in commemoration of all who served and sacrificed for the country.
The Kaurna name Tulya Mukapaanthi, meaning Remembering the Soldiers, also reflects this sentiment. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have served in every conflict and commitment involving Australian defence contingents since Federation, including both world wars and the intervals of peace since the Second World War.

It is important to note that the Gawler branded signage displaying the Gawler logo and date est. 1839, is in reference to the establishment of the Town of Gawler itself. We acknowledge that the Adelaide Plains region, including the land that is now known as the Town of Gawler, has been occupied by the Kaurna people for many thousands of years.
