(Tidnaparntu, meaning Football)

Tidnaparntu / Princes Park is located alongside the Gawler Sport & Community Centre and is utilised regularly for outdoor recreational activities such as soccer, cricket and football. The area also includes a new community basketball court, barbeque and sheltered seating. Many community events take place here including the Relay for Life, the Gawler Show, as well as a number of reconciliation events and NAIDOC celebrations.
It is important to note that the Kaurna language does not include a word that directly translates to mean ‘sport’, hence the Kaurna word Tidnaparntu, meaning football, was given to this space to represent some of the sporting activity that occurs here.
Located just behind the park is Paridla Taikunthi, the junction of the three rivers (the North and South Para Rivers and the Gawler River).

It is important to note that the Gawler branded signage displaying the Gawler logo and date est. 1839, is in reference to the establishment of the Town of Gawler itself. We acknowledge that the Adelaide Plains region, including the land that is now known as the Town of Gawler, has been occupied by the Kaurna people for many thousands of years.
