The Town of Gawler’s Dog Pound has had a makeover resulting in a refresh and a much-needed facelift.

The pound and office space both received new LED lighting, insulation, reverse-cycle air conditioning, suspended ceilings, new internal walls, and a fresh coat of paint. The office space was also upgraded with new lighting, flooring and reverse cycle air-conditioning. Data cabling was installed to both the pound and office to allow for WiFi connection to run the new air conditioner which has a monitoring system with alert messaging where there is system failure or high temperatures. The WiFi connection also creates a more purposeful office space for the Community Safety Team giving them access to the DACO database to help identify owners, search microchips with the aim of reuniting owners with their dogs.

The renovations to the pound now provide a space that is temperature controlled to ensure dogs in the Town of Gawler’s care are held in an environment where their welfare is maintained and prioritised. Upgrades to the office space now mean that there is more flexibility to the dog pound functionality allowing it to be more practical for the Community Safety Team, providing the option for them to now work from the Depot when need be.

The upgrades to the pound are a work in progress with exciting further works planned. This is a fantastic effort to ensure that the Town of Gawler provides a high level of service to the community and their pets.

We would like to also take the opportunity to thank Roseworthy Companion Animal Health Centre (CAHC) for assisting Council by holding impounded dogs whilst the renovations took place. Also, a huge thank you for the amazing assistance provided by our Community Safety Officers and our Property and Facilities Team for all their great work in ensuring a smooth transition of this project.
