Council is aware of a tree branch which has dropped onto the verandah of the Gawler Arcade.

Council’s first priority is keeping the public safe therefore, temporary fencing is currently being installed and Gum Tree Plaza will not be accessible this weekend.

Based on initial inspections the veranda will need to be removed and council will confirm what will happen and the timing as soon as possible, but this will not be until next week.

We are currently also liaising with local businesses as a result of this incident.

We are aware that questions are being asked regarding this tree. The gum tree (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) is regularly inspected by independent arborists. The most recent assessment was March 2024. Based on the ISA – Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) methodology, the tree was assessed as a low risk to public and private safety with some pruning recommended within two years of the assessment. An assessment will be made following this incident.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank SAPOL and the SES for their assistance managing the incident. Given the risk associated with the limb removal, this will take place next week with specialist equipment.
