From 1 July 2025, the speed limit on Schomburgk Drive officially changed from 50 km/h to 60 km/h. This adjustment applies to the 2.7km stretch between Potts Road and the Springwood Entrance.
The Town of Gawler Council has worked in collaboration with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT), South Australia Police (SAPOL), and the Member for Light to bring this change into effect.
In preparation for the new speed limit, several road safety improvements are being undertaken including:
- Installation of frangible guide-posts with reflectors to enhance night-time visibility and delineation
- Addition of warning signage on crests and descents to support safer driving
- Relocation of existing signs currently obstructed by trees to ensure they are clearly visible
Further improvements are scheduled for late July to early August, including upgraded roundabout warning and guidance signage. These enhancements aim to:
- Better alert drivers to the approaching roundabout
- Assist with driver navigation and wayfinding, particularly for those unfamiliar with the area
