The Gawler Visitor Information Centre and Community Gallery are relocating — continuing the same great service in a more sustainable and efficient location.

Gawler Visitor Information Centre Relocation - New location, same great service.

In Late 2025 the Town of Gawler announced the relocation of the Gawler Visitor Information Centre (VIC) and Gawler Community Gallery from 2 Lyndoch Road to the Gawler Council Administration Centre at 43 High Street, Gawler East.

The move reflects a broader trend across South Australia, with many councils reviewing and adapting Visitor Information Centre service models to improve long-term sustainability while maintaining service levels. Visitor Information Centres are primarily funded and operated by local councils, with no direct state or federal government funding provided for these services. Co-locating visitor services with other council operations is an increasingly common approach to reducing overheads and improving operational efficiency.

The relocation will deliver cost savings and operational efficiencies for Council. Once the VIC and Community Gallery have moved, the former Lyndoch Road building will become surplus to operational requirements and will be available for lease, generating additional income and supporting Council’s long-term financial sustainability goals. Council endorsed this approach following community consultation undertaken in 2025 regarding the future lease of the building.

Co-location within the Administration Centre will also provide greater operational flexibility for staff and volunteers, helping the VIC remain operational and accredited while improving customer service support through closer integration with other Council services.

Preparatory works are nearing completion, with minimal disruption expected during the move. The VIC will close for only a few days while relocation activities are finalised.

Once reopened, the Gawler Visitor Information Centre will continue to provide visitor and community services including tourism and travel information, booking services, MetroCARD sales, and souvenir sales. Public and visitor parking will remain available at both the Lyndoch Road car park and the new High Street location.

“This decision is about making sure we continue delivering the same important service to visitors and locals, but in a way that is financially responsible and sustainable into the future. The reality is the way people access tourism information has changed significantly over the years, with many councils adapting to those changes while still maintaining a physical presence and support for visitors who need it. By relocating these services into the Administration Centre, we can reduce operational costs, better utilise Council-owned assets, and free up the existing building for future leasing opportunities whilst continuing to provide visitor information services right in the heart of Gawler. At the end of the day, this is about balancing community service with good long-term financial management and making sure Council assets are working as hard as possible for our ratepayers.” – Mayor Nathan Shanks.

“While the location is changing, what won’t change is the high level of service our visitors and residents have come to expect. Our dedicated volunteers and staff will continue to provide the same friendly, knowledgeable assistance that makes Gawler a welcoming destination. This move is about enhancing convenience, strengthening connections across Council services, and ensuring we continue to meet the needs of our growing community.” – CEO Chris Cowley
