Getting fit in your own backyard this Exercise Right Week happening from the 22-28 May!

Exercise Right Week is an annual awareness campaign held in the last full week of May every year. This year the campaign will be held from 22-28 May. Since it’s inception in 2014, the campaign has aimed to highlight the benefits of exercise for health and well-being, and to help Australians to understand where to get the “right” advice for their individual needs.

The 2023 theme is ‘The Right Advice’, highlighting the importance of seeking individualised and tertiary-qualified advice for exercise, health, and sporting needs.

The Gawler Sport and Community Centre offers a range of fitness programs for those looking to get active in the community. From Zumba, gentle fitness and social Badminton, all of our fitness programs are inclusive and suitable for all ages and fitness abilities (based on advice from your healthcare professional).

Zumba is an interval based exercise class which moves between high- and low-intensity dance moves and is designed to get your heart rate up and improve cardiovascular fitness. Zumba is a great program to get fit and strong whilst dancing along to your favourite tunes.

Gentle fitness is a modified program that uses small weights, dyna bands and mats that is suitable for all fitness levels. It is designed to relieve aches and pains, arthritis, weight loss, depression and assist with injury rehabilitation.

Social Badminton is an indoor racquet sport, usually played in both singles and doubles. It is also a new addition to the Sport and Community Centre’s activity offerings. Badminton is the perfect sport for those looking for a more increased cardio vascular workout, whilst having the opportunity to have a chat and make some new friends in the process.
