Overview
Lifting of Genetically Modified Crops Moratorium
The State Government recently lifted the moratorium to allow Genetically Modified Crops (GMCs) to be grown in South Australia, with the exception of Kangaroo Island. Councils may apply to the Minister of Primary Industries and Regional Development to remain GMC free.
The Town of Gawler now seeks to consult with its Community on whether such an application to the Minister should be made by the Council.
Public Consultation will be conducted commencing Wednesday 15 July and concluding Tuesday 4 August 2020, including a community survey - https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SSM9ZD5.
Individual submissions may be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer and lodged by 5pm Tuesday 4 August 2020 via the following methods:
- Post: PO Box 130 Gawler SA 5118
- Over the Counter: Gawler Administration Centre, 43 High St Gawler East, 5118
- Email: jane.strange@gawler.sa.gov.au
- Your Voice Gawler (via 'Make an online submission' below)
- Community survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JFT3HBY
Further information is available below and all consultation feedback received will be considered by Council following the close of the Public Consultation period.
A formal decision on proceeding with an application to the Minister will be made at the Ordinary Council Meeting in August.
If you have any questions regarding this process please contact Senior Development and Strategic Policy Officer Jane Strange on 08 8522 0134.
