King Street Pedestrian Bridge Design - Feedback and Suggestions

Consultation Dates:
Opened 26 Oct 2020 Closed 13 Nov 2020

Overview

Works on the Gawler Rail Electrification Project are progressing well with the team anticipated to commence works in the Gawler area late 2020.

Following feedback received from community consultation and discussions with the Town of Gawler Council and an independent Heritage Advisor, the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department) has developed a King Street Bridge concept design for community consideration.

The proposed bridge design has incorporated the following feedback:

  • Removal of steps and ramps to improve access on both sides of the bridge
  • Urban design sympathetic to local heritage environment
  • Open steel structural design reflects traditional railway structures
  • Materials and colour palette complementary to surrounding heritage
  • Anti-climb, increased safety and reduced opportunity for graffiti and vandalism

Further consideration regarding branding and landscaping will be progressed separately by the Town of Gawler Council. The Council is also considering the installation of a storyboard close to the bridge, to celebrate the heritage aspects of the bridge and the King Street area.

We welcome your comments on the concept design for the King Street Bridge. Aspects to consider with regard to the concept design could include:

  • Bridge design
  • Colours
  • Fencing
  • Screening

You can also view the King Street Bridge concept design and also provide feedback at the Gawler Public Library, 89-91 Murray St.

The Project Team are seeking your comments on the design of the new bridge. Submissions close at COB Friday 13th November 2020.
