Gawler RSL

Kyle Armstrong (Whale Tale) is the artist behind the piece at the Gawler RSL representing the Army, Navy and Air Force.

The RSL Sub-Branch of Gawler had engaged Kyle previously for a smaller piece inside the building and decided he was the right person to turn their exterior wall on the corner of Ryde Street and Barnet Road from bland and boring to something beautiful and exciting.

The critical part of the mural is the face of Sid Ey who was a Veteran, a member of the Gawler RSL and a prominent figure in community.

"The young man in army uniform with slouch hat is Sid Ey who for all of my childhood owned and ran the Willaston BP service station and fodder store with his wife Beryl, 7 days a week. I’d often get an icecream, soft drink or chocolate bar and later on my P’s fuel up there. So I thought it only fitting that Sid go on the wall because a lot of people in Gawler would have in some way shape or form come across Sid and remember him. " - Kyle Armstrong

The artwork also features a Centurion Tank, a 212 patrol boat and a Kittyhawke plane which represents the Army, Navy and Airforce.
