At Paridla Taikunthi
A new mural has just been completed at the Gawler Civic Centre by artist Sarah Boese.
The mural in the Civic Centre has a nature theme, bringing different elements of the Gawler environment into the building. The meeting of the Gawler rivers, Paridla Taikunthi Park, a Rainbow Bee-eater, and local flora feature in this mural with the large and spectacular Crimson Rosellas drawing the eye up the large wall of the café area.
Sarah Boese is an artist from the Adelaide area who paints in a typically very vibrant and colourful style, with very fluid and organic lines. Painting murals since 2014/15 Sarah has been interested in art since she was a young child.
Sarah has used a house paint acrylic base background that she then colour matches to her aerosol paints to complete the work. She has featured in many SALA events and has murals on other walls around South Australia.
Describing her piece Sarah said "Crimson rosellas meet above the river as evening falls in Paridla Taikunthi Park. Discussing the new blossoms amongst the branches of the gums and yellow blooms; the tree limbs twist to form a shape that mirrors the intersecting water below them."

Centenary Lane Mural
Local artist Kyle Armstrong (Whale Tale Art) created this vibrant large-scale mural in Centenary Lane in early 2022.
Armstrong’s interactive Gawler art gallery features picture boxes painted on the exposed brick and concrete near the Centenary Lane entrance. The mural components can be changed over time, keeping the designs fresh and evolving for passers-by.
Pocket Park Mural
The artist of the piece Sandra Sullivan says, “My intention for the mural was to celebrate women and their children and to picture them in a place where their memory is honoured. I wanted to eliminate any political or judgmental elements and instead highlight them in a place of safety and beauty and to pay homage to women, from all different cultures and backgrounds.”
Statistics show that on average, one woman is killed every week at the hands of a current or former partner. A statistic these organisations are working to change with their work. The mural is a step towards this creating awareness and proving place of quiet contemplation for those who choose to sit, reflect, and gain strength.

Gawler Central Railway Station
A colourful new mural unveiled at Gawler Central Railway Station in 2022 celebrates the life and dedication of Rail Care volunteer Marlene Joy MacLennan.
And now, Marlene Joy MacLennan will be immortalised at Gawler Central Station, where she actively contributed its beautification as a member of RailCare’s volunteer team. The community-led initiative supports ‘greening’ the neighbourhood through rail revegetation projects.
Since 2015 with Marlene's help, almost 10,000 native plant species have been planted along Adelaide’s rail network through the work of dedicated volunteers.
The mural encapsulates Marlene’s passions in finer detail, and features a crow holding an Adelaide Crows scarf on her shoulder to represent her love for the team, as well as a crucifix earring to signify her Christian faith.

Gawler RSL
Kyle Armstrong (Whale Tale) is the artist behind the piece at the Gawler RSL representing the Army, Navy and Airforce.
The RSL Sub-Branch of Gawler had engaged Kyle previously for a smaller piece inside the building and decided he was the right person to turn their exterior wall on the corner of Ryde Street and Barnet Road from bland and boring to something beautiful and exciting.
The critical part of the mural is the face of Sid Ey who was a Veteran, a member of the Gawler RSL and a prominent figure in community.
"The young man in army uniform with slouch hat is Sid Ey who for all of my childhood owned and ran the Willaston BP service station and fodder store with his wife Beryl, 7 days a week. I’d often get an icecream, soft drink or chocolate bar and later on my P’s fuel up there. So I thought it only fitting that Sid go on the wall because a lot of people in Gawler would have in some way shape or form come across Sid and remember him. " - Kyle Armstrong
The artwork also features a Centurion Tank, a 212 patrol boat and a Kittyhawke plane which represents the Army, Navy and Airforce.
