Footpath Closure Notice Regarding Pioneer Park Heritage Wall

Published 1st July 2022
The footpath adjacent the Pioneer Park stone heritage wall on Murray Street will be closed until further notice. Read the full details.

Please be advised that access to the footpath adjacent the Pioneer Park heritage stone wall has been restricted until further notice.

Signage and additional bunting will be put into place and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area by using the footpath on the opposite side of Murray Street.

Council has recently commenced planning to investigate options to improve the wall with the view to develop a design for any required remediation works for a future budget bid.

In recent days staff have noticed increased movement of the wall.

With wet conditions expected to continue, this could create additional hydrostatic pressure behind the wall and cause further deterioration of the wall.

footpath closure

Council holds public safety as their highest concern and have decided to close the footpath adjacent to the wall until such time that further independent engineering advice is available.

Pioneer Park is a State Heritage Area and the investigations require specialised heritage and engineering input.

Council is currently liaising with Heritage South Australia to ensure that the appropriate processes are followed in the most timely way.

It will be business as usual for the Exchange Hotel and BFT – please access them from the traffic lights at the Murray Street-Lyndoch Road intersection.

Council apologises for any inconvenience while we manage public safety.
