Overview

Two new public toilet facilities are being constructed in the Gawler town centre between August and October 2021.

Overview
Construction of the two new public toilets in Gawler’s Town Centre has commenced. The new toilet blocks are located in Apex Park adjacent to the playground, and at Martin’s Place opposite the Gawler Post Office. The two new public toilet blocks will provide modern and accessible public toilets in the Town Centre. The new facilities include baby changing tables, accessible and ambulant toilet facilities, and at Martin’s Place, Gawler’s first Changing Places facility for community members with severe or profound disabilities, is also being built.

Proposals for the external design of the new toilet blocks were created and over 360 survey responses about the preferred design were received through the public consultation period in September 2021 . Council is now working with the wrap designers to finalise the facade design, ready for installation once the toilet buildings are complete.

The information gathered from this survey will be used to inform the final façade design for each of the new public toilet blocks in the town centre. Once the survey data has been collated, the design theme for each toilet will be selected and final imagery prepared to suit the size of the toilet blocks. Information panels providing background on the selected theme will be included to connect the community to Gawler’s natural and colonial heritage.

The design themes have been developed to commemorate the colonial history of Gawler including businesses and infrastructure from the 19th century, and celebrate the natural beauty of the surrounding areas including local birds and the magnificent State Heritage listed Moreton Bay Fig trees.
