Through the impending Planning and Design Code, the State Government is proposing significant changes which could negatively impact the preservation of Gawler’s unique heritage. Under the proposed system, only State and Local Heritage Places would be recognised while Gawler's 604 existing Contributory Items would no longer be protected.
