A change to state government legislation in January 2019 means Council is now able to consider and seek boundary realignment to better meet the needs of our whole community. Council can see strong economic, social and environmental reasons for presenting a proposal to the SA Boundaries Commission requesting a change in Gawler's footprint. The time is right for Gawler to talk about boundary reform, both in terms of coordinated urban growth for the region and so we can maintain our town, steeped in rich South Australian and local history.

The Annual Budget / Business Plan (Plan) outlines the proposed projects and activities to be undertaken in the 2020/21 financial year. The Plan also includes the key elements of Council’s Strategic Rating Policy and Gawler East Development – Infrastructure Funding Policy, in addition to outlining the estimated financial impact that General / Separate Rates and Service Charges, levied in accordance with Council’s Strategic Rating Policy, will have on individual properties.

The State Government recently lifted the moratorium to allow Genetically Modified Crops (GMCs) to be grown in South Australia, with the exception of Kangaroo Island. Councils may apply to the Minister of Primary Industries and Regional Development to remain GMC free. The Town of Gawler now seeks to consult with its Community on whether such an application to the Minister should be made by the Council.
